How is stroke treated?Risk Factor ModificationThe main approach to both preventing and treating a stroke first involves identifying the patient's risk factors (see Who's at Risk?). The next step is for the patient to change as many stroke risk factors as possible, such as stopping smoking, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and controlling diseases that can contribute to stroke -- such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
