What is Schizophrenia?MisconceptionsContrary to popular belief, people with schizophrenia do not have multiple or "split" personalities. Likewise, they are not more likely than other people to commit an act of violence. In fact, people with schizophrenia are far more likely to harm themselves or be victims of violence than they are to hurt someone in their family or a member of the public. Nevertheless, these misconceptions persist and contribute to much of the stigma surrounding the disease.
