Treatment

Immunotherapy
People with allergic rhinitis can receive a series of injections to help desensitize them to an allergen. These allergy shots, called immunotherapy, are administered weekly for up to five years. Initially, the injections contain a small amount of the allergen diluted in a solution, and gradually, the concentration and volume of the injection are increased as tolerated. This administration of progressively larger amounts of the offending allergen desensitizes the immune system, lessening the need for medication.
