Safety Precautions
Since people with osteoporosis are more likely to fracture bones as the result of falls or other accidents, extra safety precautions should be taken to prevent this from happening. For example, floors should be kept free of clutter and slippery spots or surfaces, and all carpeting and area rugs should have skid-proof backing or be tacked to the floor. Outdoors, rubber-soled shoes may improve traction. A person with vision problems should wear glasses or contact lenses if needed and use extra caution when moving about. Medications that can cause dizziness, tiredness, or blurred vision are usually stopped or reduced in dosage as the doctor recommends. Overall, everyone with osteoporosis should look for and remove or fix all possible causes of falls in the home and at work -- and watch out for them everywhere else.
