Effects of Osteoporosis

Loss of Bone Mass
Without treatment, people with osteoporosis lose between 1% and 3% of their bone density (also called "bone mass") each year after age 50. Over their lifetime, women with untreated osteoporosis may lose up to 50% of bone mass in their spinal vertebrae -- the location of almost half of osteoporosis fractures.
