Types of Bones
The two main types of bone are 1) very dense and hard compact bone, and 2) cancellous, or spongy, bone. Both types of bone can be found in the same bone, but it's the spongy bone that is usually involved in an osteoporosis fracture. Spongy bone is found in the vertebrae, skull, ribs, breastbone, and pelvis, all areas that carry the highest risk of fracture.
