How Medications Treat Depression
Antidepressant medications improve depression symptoms by blocking neurons' reuptake of specific neurotransmitters. The blocked neurotransmitter is then able to strengthen the subsequent nerve impulse. This process can help to restore normal neuron-to-neuron communication.
