Depression and the brain

In a person with depression, neurons release neurotransmitters normally. However, once the neurotransmitters bind to the second neuron, the next nerve impulse may be too weak to continue the cycle, although reuptake occurs normally. The weakened electrical nerve impulse is believed to cause the symptoms of depression.
