Who's at risk?Hormone Replacement TherapyBesides the breast cancer risk factors listed above, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be linked with breast cancer. However, this is controversial. So far, medical research has shown that long-term estrogen use (5-10 years) may increase a woman's chance of getting breast cancer. And although it was previously thought that progestins -- another female hormone used in HRT -- were not linked with breast cancer, recent research showed that women taking progestins in addition to estrogen may have an increased risk of the disease.
