TreatmentChemotherapyChemotherapy drugs are usually given in a vein (intravenously) over a period of several weeks to most women with evidence of cancer in the lymph nodes. However, in some women, hormone therapy (discussed below) may be used instead of chemotherapy or even in addition to it. Chemotherapy drugs can affect all cells in the body but are designed to damage or kill cells that are multiplying quickly, such as cancer cells, and prevent them from producing more cancer cells. Depending on which drugs are used, chemotherapy may cause significant side effects including hair loss, severe nausea and vomiting, heart failure, and immune system suppression. |
