HIP's Success
New York's hometown health plan is breaking new ground wherever you look. In 2006, American Business Awards named us as having the nation's best support team. Also in 2006, in recognition of our commitment to innovation and quality, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) awarded HIP's commercial HMO and Point of Service plans an Excellent Accreditation. Additionally in that year, HIP launched New York City's first health plan to focus exclusively on the unique healthcare needs of Medicare beneficiaries with diabetes. In 2002, InformationWeek ranked HIP no.1 in the nation for our innovative use of technology. HIP serves approximately 1.3 million members, and we have more Medicare members than any other HMO in New York City. In November 2006, HIP and GHI became affiliated under a common parent company, EmblemHealth, making it the largest New York-based health insurance company, serving more than 4 million people and with over 92,000 providers in 142,000 locations across the Tri-State region.
