HIP Purchasing

Doing Business With HIP
In 1947, HIP was created as a prepaid group practice health insurer for a handful of employees of the City of New York. Now, more than half a century later, with more than one million members, HIP is a financially secure company with a diversified membership comprising Fortune 500 companies; small businesses; organized labor; city, state, and federal membership; and government-sponsored health care programs. In fact, HIP is the largest provider of Medicare and Medicaid in New York State.

HIP Purchasing is a process that offers a level playing field to all suppliers. HIP views its suppliers as playing a vital role in our mutual success - providing maximum economic value to our customers through the offering of products and services that meet or exceed their requirements.

Purchasing Department Mission
To provide our internal customers with superior goods and services in a timely and cost effective manner.

Equal Employment Opportunity
It is the policy of HIP to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Recognizing that its obligations regarding discrimination extend beyond its own employment practices, HIP takes steps to ensure that companies with which it does business do not discriminate in any way on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, martial status, disability, citizenship, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.

HIP will neither accept nor condone discrimination by suppliers.

Supplier Diversity
HIP is proud of its active, ongoing diversified supplier initiative, which gives certified diverse suppliers access to opportunity. Our mission is to ensure that our suppliers reflect the diversity of the community we serve. HIP's diversified supplier initiative, "Access to Opportunity," provides for the inclusion of diversified suppliers across a broad spectrum of contracting opportunities. This initiative, with strong support from HIP's senior management, continues to enhance opportunities for members of the minorinty business community by giving all qualified suppliers of goods and services the opportunity to bid for our business.

Recognizing the difficulty for some underutilized businesses to gain access to opportunity, HIP has implemented a formal process to provide assistance. This assistance does not guarantee a contract with us, but provides access to opportunity. If a company is seeking to do business with HIP as a diversified supplier, it must be certified as such. HIP does not have a formal certification program; we honor regional, state and government certification. If a diversified supplier is not certified, we will encourage it to become certified.

We encourage diversified suppliers that can provide valuable products and services to HIP to visit our Supplier Diversity Page for complete information.

Conflict of Interest
All employees of HIP are governed by the most current conflict of interest policy. HIP's policy statement is as follows: "It is the policy of HIP to conduct its operations free of any conflict of interests or the appearance of conflict of interests. Accordingly, all employees, officers and directors must conduct themselves in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, honesty and fair dealing to preclude any conflicts between personal interests and those of HIP and its subsidiaries."
