What You Should Know About HIP Participating Providers as Independent Contractors

HIP arranges for the delivery of health care services in accordance with and subject to the terms of your certificate of coverage entered into between you or on your behalf, and HIP. HIP does not directly provide these services or supplies. Rather, these services and supplies are provided by Independent Contractors. The health care providers listed in this directory that deliver health care services are not the employees or agents of HIP. HIP shall not be liable for any negligent act or omission by any of the providers listed in this directory, or any of their employees or agents, who may, from time to time, provide medical services to you. HIP expressly disclaims any agency relationship, actual or implied, with any health care provider. Any decisions made by HIP concerning appropriateness of setting, whether any service or supply is medically necessary, pursuant to this Agreement, shall be deemed to be made solely for the purposes of determining whether benefits are due under the agreement between you and HIP, and not for the purposes of recommending any medical treatment or non-treatment. HIP does not exercise any control or direction over the medical judgement or clinical decisions of any health care provider listed in this directory and does not interfere with the physician patient relationship between you and any health care provider. It is important to know that when you enroll in HIP, services are provided through HIP's delivery system, as described in your HIP Certificate of Coverage, but the continued participation of any one doctor, hospital or other provider cannot be guaranteed.
