Post Partum Depression (or the Baby Blues)

Remember that caring for your baby involves caring for yourself. If you have questions, speak to your doctor.

It is common for new mothers to feel overwhelmed by the stress and lack of rest that accompany caring for a newborn. If you have persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, speak to your doctor. Postpartum depression is a treatable illness. Symptoms include:

  • Sadness.
  • Guilt.
  • Anxiety.
  • Mood Swings.
  • Extreme tiredness.
  • Feeling overwhelmed.
  • Change in appetite.
  • Uncontrollable crying.
  • Loss of interest in actives that used to be pleasurable.

If you are experiencing these feelings, be sure to speak to your doctor. You are not alone, as one out of five women suffers from postpartum depression.
