New Member ID Numbers
In support of our commitment to member privacy, HIP has replaced the 11-digit Social Security-based numbers on non-Medicaid* member ID cards with new eight-digit numbers. To learn what this change means for you and your HIP-enrolled family members, please read on.
What is NMI?
NMI, or New Member ID, will be issued to all HIP non-Medicaid* members. It is an eight-digit, unique number. This means that a dependent will no longer have an ID number that is a variation of the policy holder's Social Security number. Instead, each HIP member will have his or her own ID number.
What if I forget my NMI?
To avoid any disruption of service, HIP departments and systems will continue to accept the current 11-digit ID in addition to the eight-digit NMI. Therefore, members who have forgotten their NMI may still receive care using the 11-digit member ID number.
Where can I learn more about NMI?
If you still have questions about the new member ID project, please call Customer Service at 1-800-HIP-TALK (1-800-447-8255), Monday -- Friday, from 8 am -- 6 pm. We'll be happy to assist you.
