MinuteClinic

When you need to see a health care provider for a common, non-urgent illness such as an ear infection, allergy, bronchitis, or a strep throat, you may want to visit MinuteClinic. No referrals are required.

Owned by CVS Corporation, MinuteClinic is a provider of "retail-based" health care with nationally based locations in CVS pharmacies and other retail locations. MinuteClinic offers quick and convenient (no appointment required) health care seven days a week, often with extended hours. These pharmacy-based clinics are staffed by advanced practice certified nurse practitioners who are able to write prescriptions when clinically appropriate and offer treatment for common family illnesses, as well as offer vaccinations.

Copays for visiting a MinuteClinic will be determined by the terms of your individual health plan and will be the same as your copayment for visiting your PCP. These conveniently-located clinics are intended to supplement, not replace, your ongoing relationship with your primary care provider. If a HIP member is treated at a MinuteClinic, MinuteClinic is responsible for submitting the member's medical records to the primary care provider of record. Members need to give their PCP's contact information to MinuteClinic to facilitate this exchange of information. Please note that visits to a MinuteClinic do not require a referral.

If you feel you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room. Your Member Handbook will help you understand what constitutes an emergency.
