Care for the Family Caregiver
Caring for Me; Caring for You

Family caregivers play an essential yet unknown and undervalued role in the well being of those for whom they care, putting themselves at risk of becoming care recipients as well. To bring focus and attention to the risks and needs of family caregivers, HIP's Integrative Wellness department commissioned a theatrical exploration of the challenges of caregiving from Plays for Living, Inc., in 2002. The play's key message is, "Before I can become an effective caregiver and care for you, I need to care for myself-body, mind and spirit." A facilitated discussion follows each performance to explore feelings and encourage a sharing of experiences and solutions.

“Caring for Me; Caring for You” has been seen throughout New York City and State and far beyond. Each time the play is performed, it gives rise to new ideas and initiatives that further the Care for the Caregiver program's mission.
