Clinical Practice Guidelines

HIP encourages the use of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) for the provision of acute, chronic and behavioral health services that are relevant to the enrolled membership. HIP either adopts guidelines from recognized sources, or develops them based on evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Plan-developed guidelines are reviewed and adopted with the help of participating practitioners. All guidelines are reviewed at a minimum of every two years and are updated as appropriate, with the exception of the HIV/AIDS Clinical Practice Guidelines, which are reviewed and updated annually.

HIP Clinical Practice Guidelines are not a substitute for the clinical judgment of the health care clinician and are intended only to assist the clinician by organizing relevant information on the management of preventive and clinical care. Individual patient treatment may vary from the CPGs based on the health care clinician's clinical judgment.

Below is a list of Clinical Practice Guidelines related to behavioral health care services. The guidelines that have been adopted by HIP are provided as direct links to the Web sites of the organizations that created them. The guidelines developed by HIP are in Adobe® Acrobat® format. Click here to download the free Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®. All documents are best viewed when printed. Call the Provider Relations Service Team at 1-866-447-9717, option 5 if you would like a paper copy of a specific guideline to be mailed to you.

A comprehensive list of HIP's Clinical Practice Guidelines is available in the "View Provider Materials" section of the provider portal at hipusa.com®.
