Important Notice to Behavioral Health Practitioners

Recently you received a letter informing you that the use of a UPIN/NPI number in the "Referring Physician" box (box 17) on a claim form would no longer be recognized and would result in a denial of the claim. We would like to clarify for those behavioral health professionals that may have received this letter in error that referrals are not required for mental health services. There will not be any denial of claims resulting from this policy change that will affect your practice.
